How Pikimal Works

What is a Piki?

Pikis are applications that take the work out of researching and making decisions. Pikis collect all the information about a topic and then tailor the results to your personal preferences. To use a Piki, select a product you want to buy from the home page. Then, choose a template that matches your needs to hone your results accordingly. On the template page, you can further narrow your results by using the sliders to specify exactly what’s important to you.

Is Pikimal free to use?

Yes! Pikimal is completely free for all users for personal, noncommercial use in compliance with our Terms of Service.

Can I trust results from Pikimal’s data?

Our data comes from retailers, manufacturers, government published databases, and sites reviewing products. In other words, if you can trust the side of the box that your new laptop came in, you can trust our data. Although we strive for precision, mistakes and errors can always occur, so if you spot inaccurate data, please report it immediately.

Does Pikimal include information about used products (from sites like eBay or Amazon)?

No. Pikimal’s data currently pertains only to new items directly from the manufacturer or an authorized retailer.

What makes this better than online reviews or Consumer Reports?

To start, we don’t just consider products -- we also have Pikis for schools, food, recipes and more. If you can pick it, you can Piki it.

Also -- and this is worth pointing out -- we don’t actually review anything. Ever. We just take the complicated specs and design features, put them into our Pikis, and ask you what you want. Then, we match your wants and needs against all of the available products in our database and rank them in order of relevance by the cold, hard facts.

That said, some people think it’s important to know what kinds of experiences other consumers have had with a specific product before making a final buying decision. We know how important consumer reviews can be to some people, so we’ve included a review feature in our tool -- and all registered users have the ability to share their experiences (the good, the bad and the ugly) with other Pikimal users. Unlike sites like Amazon, we strive to make sure no fake reviews or spam appear.

Does Pikimal support languages other than English?

No. We currently support only English.

My Account and Profile

Do I have to register?

No. You are under no obligation to register. However, some features of Pikimal are only available to registered users (see below). Creating an account is completely free.

Why should I create an account?

Registering with Pikimal allows you to save your preferences and any templates that you create. It also allows you to provide reviews and ratings on all of our Pikis and products. There is no cost to register.

What if I forget my password?

Please click here to reset your password. You must have access to your e-mail address on file with Pikimal.

How do I change my e-mail address?

Log-in and click ‘My Account’ at the top of the homepage. Then click ‘Change Email and Password.’ You are able to enter a new e-mail address and your current password (for security purposes). You will receive a confirmation e-mail shortly telling you that the change was successful.

How do I delete my account?

This option is currently unavailable to users, but we'd be happy to help you! If you would like to delete your account, please contact Pikimal directly by e-mail or phone during normal business hours.

Who are you?

We’re a group of people just like you: consumers who are tired of falling victim to sub-par products and clever marketing schemes. Led by our founder, Eric Silver, we’ve created a new way for people to customize their searches to easily make the best decisions for them, every time.

If everything’s free, how does Pikimal make money?

Many of our product pages include links to external vendors (mainly Amazon) to give our users an opportunity to click-through and purchase the product. When they do, we may receive a referral fee from the merchant.

Can I work at Pikimal?

Can I invest in Pikimal?

The short answer is not right now. Pikimal is currently a privately funded company backed by venture capital investors.

Site Errors/Suggestions

I’ve found data that’s inaccurate. How do I report it?

We really appreciate you stepping up to help us with our mistakes! To report a data error, please hover over the incorrect fact and click the “incorrect info” link. If you know the correct value, it will ask you to provide it. We will work as quickly as possible to rectify the situation. Thank you!

I’ve found a bug error on the site. How do I report it?

Please report any bugs by sending an email to bugs@pikimal.com. Please include a clear description of the issue you’re experiencing and a link to the exact page on which it’s occurring. Thank you!

How can I suggest a Piki I’d like to see?

There is a potentially infinite number of Pikis for us to create, so we try to make them in order of importance to our users. If you have a suggestion, we’d love to hear it and will try to make it a priority. Please send us an e-mail with your ideas.

I have a general suggestion for the site. Where can I submit it?

We welcome any suggestions users have for the site. Please send us an e-mail with your thoughts and comments and we’ll respond as quickly as we can.

Miscellaneous

How do I report a copyright violation?

All potential copyright violations should be reported immediately to Pikimal as outlined in the Notices and Procedures for Making Claims of Copyright section of our Terms of Service. If an infringement is found, the material will be removed as quickly as possible.
